Auto Body Repair

Auto Body Repair/1 79-80-51 $110

Provides instruction and practical experience in non-structural analysis and damage repair. Includes: outer body panel repair/ replacement, metal finishing, body filler, glass and hardware, welding and cutting, plastics, and adhesives.

Auto Body Repair/2 79-80-53 $110

(360 hours)

Structural analysis of damage repair. Both classes provide sustainable and green vehicle technology processes. Workplace policies, safety, including all environmental policies. Instruction includes: use of tools, frame inspection and unibody.

Auto Body Repair/3 79-80-55 $110

Is the third in a sequence of five designed for the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF) certification in Auto Body Repair. It provides students with technical instruction and practical experience in mechanical and electrical repair of automobiles using sustainable and green vehicle technologies. Instruction includes the inspection, removal, replacement, and/or adjustment of the following: suspension and steering, electrical, brakes, heating and air conditioning, cooling, drive train, fuel, intake, exhaust, and restraint systems.

Auto Body Repair/4 79-80-57 $180

Provides instruction and practical experience in auto body painting and refinishing using sustainable and green vehicle technologies. Maintenance and storage of materials and chemicals, tools and equipment. Use of techniques for surface preparation, spray gun operation, paint mixing/matching, paint application, causes & cures of paint defects & final details.

Auto Body Repair/5 79-80-59 $180

Provides students with technical instruction and practical experience in auto body repair estimation. Emphasis is placed on auto body construction, minor body repairs, major body repairs, painting and refinishing repairs, and collision cost estimating. It reviews classroom and workplace safety and environmental policies and procedures, trade mathematics, employability skills, and entrepreneurial skills.
Prerequisites: Auto Body Repair/1, None.

Note: Enrollment in Auto Body Repair/2, 4, 5 requires successful completion of previous courses.

Auto Technician

Instruction focuses on the use of tools and equipment, service manuals, and computer-based information systems. Practical techniques in brake diagnosis and repair, hydraulic systems, drum/disc brakes, power assist unit, wheel bearings, parking brakes, electronic brake and control systems are also included. The course covers proper use, maintenance, and storage of tools and equipment as well as use of service manuals and computer-based information systems, techniques in diagnosis, service and repair suspension and steering systems, wheels and tires. Also included in the course are trade mathematics, resource
management, employability and entrepreneurial skill.
Prerequisites: Enrollment requires successful completion of the
Auto Tech: Engine Repair course.

Auto Tech: Emission Control/1 is the first of 2 courses needed to meet California state BAR Basic Clean Air Car Course Certification, it includes vehicle testing, On-Board Diagnostics (OBD), 11 malfunction lights, trouble
codes, main monitors, and readiness tests.

Prerequisites: Enrollment requires successful completion of the Auto Tech: Engine Performance/1 and Auto Tech: Engine Performance/2 or one year experience in the automotive engine performance area.

This is the second of 2 courses required to meet CA State BAR Basic Clean Air Car Course program. Includes vehicle testing, NOX emissions, DSO, loaded mode emissions, catalytic converter, and BAR-97 EIS testing procedures.

Prerequisites: Enrollment requires successful completion of the Auto Tech: Emission Control/1 course.

Techniques for engine performance diagnosis and general repair as well as computerized engine controls and ignition systems.

Second of two courses covering use of manuals and electronic information systems. Introduction to fuel and air induction systems, emission controls, and engine-related services. Introduction to entrepreneurship as well as review of resource management, trade mathematics, tools and equipment, and employability skills.

Prerequisites: Enrollment requires successful completion of the Auto Tech: Engine Performance/1 course.

Auto Tech Exhaust Emissions-20 HR Smog Lic (UPG): 79-60-70 $60

This course meets BAR 20-Hour Update #1 requirement for licensed CA Smog Technicians.

Prerequisites: Enrollment requires a California Smog Technician license, an 8.0 reading level as measured by the TABE D9/10 and 7.0 math skills equivalent to Math 2.
